Services
The practice assesses children and adolescents with developmental paediatric questions. The evaluation is medical, development-oriented and takes the family, school and therapeutic situation into account.
- General development
- Cognition and learning
- Language
- Motor skills and coordination
- Attention and concentration
- Behaviour and social-emotional development
- Sleep and regulation
- Parental counselling
The aim of the assessment is a medical evaluation of the child's development with concrete recommendations for the family, the treating paediatrician, the school and therapies.
Process and referral
Assessments are usually carried out on referral from the treating paediatrician.
Depending on the question, the assessment includes:
- review of existing prior reports
- history-taking with the parents or carers
- developmental paediatric examination
- psychological testing, if indicated
- medical evaluation
- recommendations for the next steps
- written report to the referring physician
Prior reports, school reports, therapy reports and relevant questionnaires can be helpful for the assessment.
Psychosomatics
As holder of the interdisciplinary fellowship in Psychosomatic and Psychosocial Medicine SAPPM, questions at the interface between body and mind are assessed as a separate service. Psychosomatic medicine considers the person as a whole, looking at physical, emotional and social influences together. Physical complaints without a sufficient organic explanation are not imagined but are to be taken seriously.
Especially in children and adolescents, strain and tension can manifest physically – for example as recurring headaches or abdominal pain, fatigue or restlessness. The assessment takes the family, school and developmental context into account and, where needed, complements the developmental paediatric evaluation.
